Summer activities

The summer holidays have started! The perfect time for a visit to GeoFort. During the summer holidays, we are open every day from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Also during the summer holidays, there is plenty to do for a full day of playing, exploring, and discovering. No matter what the weather is like, GeoFort is always the place to be. In hot weather, you can play with water or go on an adventure in the cool bunkers. Is it raining? No problem, there are also many indoor activities and games to discover!

This summer there are extra Minecraft activities and Minecraft workshops. We also have fun new workshops this holiday, such as making insect lollipops and building bee hotels. In the museum, there are also new exhibitions, such as the Barbie exhibition, the new Minecraft Fox Maze, and Fast Forward, where you can learn more about the future of mobility. From electric bicycles and self-driving cars to hyperloops and flying taxis!

Read more below about the extra activities during the summer holidays. All dates are subject to change.

Fast Forward

Do you prefer to keep your feet on the ground? Then join a workshop about the Earth, especially for curious children! How do earthquakes and mountains form? And did you know that all continents were once joined together as one big supercontinent, Pangaea? Maybe you even wonder if we are alone in the universe… During this workshop, you will get answers to all your questions about the Earth and much more.

Do you dare to try worms? Join the insect lollipop workshop

July: 16, 23, and 30
August: 6 and 27

During this workshop, children make their own chocolate lollipops… with a surprising ingredient: edible insects! In a playful way, they discover how sustainable alternative protein sources can be. But is it also tasty? They get to find out for themselves.

Tickets available at the entrance. Participation costs €1 per lollipop (to prevent chocolate waste). Recommended age: 6+ years

Become a real insect catcher!

July: 19 and 26
August: 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30

Are you ready for an exciting adventure in nature? During this activity, children go on an exploration with our guide in a damp, green area on the fort island. Using homemade insect vacuums and nets, they search for insects, spiders, and other small crawling creatures hiding in the bushes and grass.
We learn how to safely catch, observe, and of course, release the animals again. Everything we find is temporarily collected in a special container so we can see what lives there. And the best part? You get to take the insect vacuum home!

Register at the entrance. Participation is included with museum admission. Recommended age: 6+ years

Make your own bee hotel!

July: 18 and 25
August: 1, 8, and 29

Did you know that bees are essential for flowers, plants, and our food? Unfortunately, they are finding it increasingly difficult to find a good place to nest. We are going to help!

During this fun and sustainable activity, children build their own bee hotel. We use leftover materials as well as twigs and hollow stems from nature. This way, we immediately learn how to make a safe shelter for wild bees using natural materials. Wild bees don’t make honey, but they are super important for nature. Of course, the homemade bee hotel goes home with you, so the children can help save the bees in their own garden or on their balcony!

Register at the entrance. Participation is included with museum admission. Recommended age: 6+ years

Workshop “Glass as Raw Material”

July 13 between 2:00 and 4:00 PM (kick-off)
August 13 and 20 continuously between 1:00 and 3:00 PM

Under the guidance of artist Moos, you will work with second-hand glass from, among other places, thrift stores. From this ‘waste’ you will create beautiful new objects, such as colorful stepping stones made from marbles and an impressive rose arch made of glass. These glass artworks will be placed along the renewed barefoot path on the fort grounds: the Telephone Trail.

Participation is included with museum admission. Recommended age: 6+ years
